Safari Overview
About Udawalawe National Park
Udawalawe National Park is located on the boundary of Sabaragamuwa and Uva Provinces in Sri Lanka and was created to provide a sanctuary for wild animals displaced by the construction of the Udawalawe Reservoir.
The park is most famous for its large population of Sri Lankan elephants, with herds often seen grazing near the reservoir and roaming the park's grasslands.
Unlike other national parks in Sri Lanka, Udawalawe offers excellent elephant viewing opportunities throughout the year, making it one of the best places in the world to observe wild Asian elephants.
The park is also an important habitat for water birds and Sri Lankan leopards, though leopard sightings are less common than in Yala.
